Frequently asked questions
An admission decision may only be rectified if Aalto University has made an error in the admission procedure and the error justifies the rectification of the admission decision.
Student admissions are based on admissions criteria which are decided by Aalto University.
Rectification requests will not be approved if the rectification would go against the admissions criteria. If your application does not meet the eligibility requirements, such as the required proof of language proficiency, you cannot be admitted to Aalto University.
Admission decisions are based on the application documents and information provided by applicants, following the University’s instructions and the given deadlines. It is the applicant's responsibility to adhere to the instructions and submit the required documents on time. No new documents can be submitted to support your rectification request.
Failure to follow the University’s instructions or to meet a deadline is not an error on Aalto University’s part.
When submitting a rectification request, specify the decision you want to have rectified, how you believe the decision should be rectified, and on what grounds.
Your rectification request must demonstrate that the University made an error. Grounds other than an actual error made by the University will not be considered.
The list below contains examples of grounds that are irrelevant and should not be used to justify a rectification request:
- ‘I am highly motivated to study at this master’s programme at Aalto University.’
- ‘I forgot to attach a document to my application or I added the wrong file.’
- ‘Although Aalto University did not accept the documents I presented as proof of my English proficiency, my English skills are very good.’
- ‘I do not understand the reason why my application was rejected.’
- ‘My rectification request contains additional information that was not included in my application.’
(E.g. an updated transcript of records, course content descriptions, additional information about the grading scale used by my university, or information on personal health or other circumstances that have affected the duration of the studies or grades.) No new documents can be submitted with the rectification request.
Aalto University will process all rectification requests within approximately 1–2 months. All rectification requests will be processed as quickly as possible.
If your rectification request concerns academic evaluation, academic evaluators will re-evaluate your application and provide a written statement regarding your rectification request. Once the statement has been completed, your rectification request will be forwarded to the dean of the relevant school. The dean will make an official decision on whether to approve or reject your rectification request.
You will be notified of the outcome of your rectification request by email once the process is complete.
If you wish to have further information about the evaluation of your application at the study option, you may contact the Aalto School of your study option after the final admission results have been published.
