Donation in honour of a special occasion
A donation in honour of a special occation is a perfect option for an immaterial gift. Set up a fundraiser and donate to science, technology, art and business.
Martti Johansson, a School of Business alum, had the surprise of his life when he was invited back to his alma mater to celebrate his 80th birthday. The celebration was arranged by Reima and Pekka Räty, both Masters of Science (Technology), who wanted to honour Johansson's anniversary with a significant donation to the School of Business.
‘I have never experienced a surprise this big in my life before. I was absolutely stunned, but very happy and proud!’ says Johansson.
After graduating in 1967, Johansson had a distinguished 40-year career in the banking sector in managerial and executive positions.
Fashion designer, clothing entrepreneur and professor emerita Piippa Lappalainen died at the age of 82 in January 2023. As a Professor of Fashion at the University of Art and Design (now Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture), Lappalainen was particularly interested in internationalisation, entrepreneurial skills, sustainability and new technologies.
Petra Lassenius and Tuua Hakola, Lappalainen's daughters, decided to organise a memorial fundraiser for their mother's passing, and the fashion programme of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture was a natural choice for the donation.
‘The talented young students were close to our mother's heart, and we are grateful that we were able to raise a small amount of money that will help create something new, exciting and meaningful in fashion,’ the daughters say.
