Aalto University’s master’s programmes spark interest worldwide
Aalto University received 13 076 applications from 8 642 applicants to master’s programmes in the application period that ended on 27 December 2024. The majority of the applications, 8 269 in total, were submitted to programmes in the field of science and technology. The programmes in the field of art, design and architecture received 3 211 applications, while those in the field of economics and business administration received 1 596 applications.
85% of the applicants were international students, i.e. students whose nationality was other than Finnish. In all, the applicants represented 127 different nationalities.
In the field of science and technology, the two most popular programmes were Computer Science, and Automation and Electrical Engineering. Among the programmes in arts, design and architecture, Collaborative and Industrial Design and Architecture attracted the most applicants, while in business and economics, Business Analytics and Accounting were the most popular choices. This year, the programme with the highest growth was Documentary Film with its 18-percent increase in applications.
The application period which closed on 27 December was reserved for applicants seeking admission to the two-year master’s programmes starting at Aalto University in autumn 2025. The numbers reported in this article do not include students who have completed a bachelor’s degree at Aalto University and have thus earned a right to continue to an Aalto master’s programme. The admission results of the master’s-level application procedure will be published 9 April 2025.
Aalto’s international joint degree programmes’ application periods differ from the rest of the master’s programmes. The application periods can be found on each programme’s webpage.
The next application period will be organised for the bachelor’s programmes taught in English and it runs from 8 to 23 January 2025. The application period for the bachelor’s programmes taught in Finnish or Swedish will run from 11 to 25 March 2025.
