Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is the world’s leading meeting place for Scandinavian design. The event is part of Stockholm Design Week, during which the city is bustling with up to 400 different exhibitions and design-related events. Professionals, students, Nordic furniture manufacturers, retailers and the media meet each year at this high-profile yet compact in size platform. This year the fair is organized between 4-8 February 2020.

The most interesting section of the fair is the Greenhouse, which is the most progressive and international part of the fair. Here unestablished designers and design schools from all over the world display their prototypes. Greenhouse was organized for the first time in 2003, and since then its size and significance has grown steadily. The jury selects 30 schools and young designers to display their work in Greenhouse, and Aalto University has been invited to exhibit each year for already a decade.

Aalto’s exhibition is known for its quality and originality. Leading media outlets such as Domus, Dezeen, Wallpaper, Archinew and Artsthread have published Aalto students’ furniture concepts in detail on their websites.

This year Aalto University is presenting an exhibition called ‘Armchair’. 14 furniture design master’s students have designes armchairs out of steel rods. The idea behind this strict form exercise is to observe the shape and structure of the individual piece of furniture — as well as an original perspective.
