Opin.fi is a service that brings together the open study offerings of universities and universities of applied sciences in one place. The beta phase of the service took place this autumn between 8 October and 19 December, and the first users were able to test the service and give feedback for its future development.

Eight higher education institutions have participated in the beta phase of the service: Aalto University, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Häme University of Applied Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, University of Lapland, Laurea University of Applied Sciences and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. Other Finnish higher education institutions will introduce the service in 2025.

The Opin.fi service was not yet complete in the beta phase; the aim was to accumulate initial user experiences before the service is launched. The development will now continue based on the feedback and lessons learned during the beta version.

The service will be launched in April 2025, when Opin.fi will open to everyone interested in learning and self-development. In the meantime, you can read more about the service at, for example, www.opin.fi

What is Opin.fi?

Opin.fi is a national service aimed at lifewide learners (meaning all of us), where you can find a collection of open study offerings from various higher education institutions.

Opin.fi is a joint service for 37 Finnish higher education institutions that will bring together the open study offerings of universities and universities of applied sciences in one place. The service is the first output of the Digivisio 2030 project, which has been developed together with higher education institutions since 2022.

Its beta phase took place this autumn. The service is still incomplete, and user experiences and feedback collected during the beta phase will help to develop it further.

This autumn, the service contained the open study offerings of eight higher education institutions, including Aalto university, that have adopted the Opin.fi service first. Aalto University's open university and FITech's studies are featured in the service. In addition, Opin.fi offers other content, such as podcasts, events, and videos. You can search for suitable offerings by using various filters. If needed, Opin.fi directs the learner to the university's website to enroll or learn more about the studies.

Other higher education institutions will introduce the service in 2025. The Opin.fi service will be launched in April 2025. The learning opportunities at the Opin.fi service will expand as other higher education institutions join. In the future, you can create an Opin.fi account, and view your own previous credits, attendance, and study rights information related to higher education in Finland.
