Seaweed Kitchen: Future Snacks workshop with children as part of the ClimATE events

Does the future lie in seaweed? This workshop invites children to explore the future of food through immersive experiences: where they cook with seaweed and speculate on future diets. We aim to encourage children to understand human and non-human relationships in the context of seasonable, sustainable consumption.

The workshop will consist of different activities in which children will learn about seaweed. They will be able to observe colour changing when boiled and they will “design” their own bread using seaweed and dough, and observe the baking process. Finally they will eat, draw, and reflect on their experience.

We are trying to change our habits, consume less and do better for the planet, so we would like to kindly ask participants to bring their own tableware (plate/bowl) and water bottle.

The workshop requires registration, please contact SCTA Curator Bilge Hasdemir ([email protected]).

About Tzuyu Chen,  Chiao-wen Hsu & Mariana Solís Escalera

The workshop will be led by Tzuyu Chen,  Chiao-wen Hsu & Mariana Solís Escalera, master`s students in the Contemporary Design Programme at Aalto University.

Coming from different backgrounds, they share their cultures and values and contribute to each other’s expertise. Together they explore the multi-faceted challenges and complexities that emerge in the field of design. This has led them to develop `Empathy Education: Non-Human and Humans Seasons`, a project that enquires into the relationships between humans and non-humans and reflects on how a sustainable diet can play a revolutionary role towards a better future.
