Course feedback tool as a MyCourses plugin
Course feedback can be found in MyCourses. You log in to the MyCourses learning environment with your own Aalto credentials.
From the top bar of MyCourses and the course workspace to the course feedback tool
The Course Feedback button in the top bar of MyCourses takes you to a view where all the functions of Course feedback tool are gathered. The view has four tabs:
- The "Course feedback" tab lists all your course implementations and feedback surveys. On this page, you can also see current tasks related to feedback surveys, visualized. More detailed instructions on the subject can be found here: Survey status.
- On the "Summary report" tab, you can view reports from feedback surveys.
- The "Implementations from which feedback is not collected" tab lists possible exceptions, i.e. your course implementations, for which feedback is not collected with Course feedback tool. Restrictions are managed by the admin user.
- On the "Question library" tab, you can view questions from the common question library and manage your own question library. You can read more about the question library and its functions here: Question library.
In the MyCourses workspace of the course implementation, you can see the black Course Feedback button on the right side next to the Syllabus button. This button takes you to the implementation-specific feedback survey view. From the implementation-specific view, you can access the listing view through "My course feedback".
You can see the implementations for which you are marked as a teacher or responsible teacher in Sisu. If you are part of a teaching team, all teachers will see the same information.
Connection between Course feedback tool and MyCourses
The course feedback tool is a plug-in for MyCourses, which on the one hand has common functions with MyCourses and on the other hand has separate features.
The user interface language in the course feedback tool is the one you have selected in your MyCourses profile.
The language versions in the feedback survey forms are managed in the course feedback tool:
- the language of the survey is linked to the teaching language or languages of the course
- if you create new questions for the surveys of a multilingual course implementation, edit the language versions of the survey form directly on the survey tabs
- if you choose a question from the common questions in the question library, the questions are already trilingual (with the exception of questions marked with the BIZ keyword, which may only be in Finnish and English)
Also for the student the language of the user interface is selected according to the MyCourses profile. Answering the feedback survey starts with the question in which language the student wants to answer. If the teacher has not made the question in the language that the student chooses, the student will see the question in the language in which the question was made. If the question is in two languages, the language that comes first in the order "English, Finnish, Swedish" is displayed.
The course feedback tool is linked to Sisu data: people who have a teacher or responsible teacher role with the course implementation on Sisu will receive a "Teacher" role in the MyCourses workspace and its course feedback tool.
However, if you give a teacher role to another person in your MyCourses workspace, they will get a "Teacher (MC)" role that will not access the course feedback functions of that course. In other words, the teacher role must be added to the person on Sisu so that they can also use the course feedback tool in the course.
If you use MyCourses in the roles of both teacher and student, depending on the course implementation, you choose which role you want to use when you go to the course feedback view. MyCourses' "Workspace assistant" role does not have an equivalent in the course feedback tool, i.e. for this role, the course implementation in question does not appear in the Course feedback tool.
When you, as a teacher, want to preview what the course feedback survey looks like from the student's point of view, you can do so in the preview of the editing mode of the survey. Therefore, do not use the "Change role" function in the MyCourses profile settings for this purpose, because it does not apply to the course feedback tool.
If your course implementation appears in the "My courses" section of MyCourses, it should also appear in the listing view of course feedback surveys. If you notice in the listing view that the course end date is incorrect, and as a result the automatic final feedback survey is timed incorrectly, the end date must be corrected in Sisu. The LES staff at your own school will help you correct the error if necessary.
The course feedback tool automatically sends one notification to the teacher by e-mail two weeks before the start of the course. You can view the same message in Notifications of MyCourses. The message contains a link to the implementation-specific view of the course feedback tool, where you can plan the practices for collecting feedback.
If you want to change the notification delivery method, you can do it in your own profile in MyCourses: Personal Preferences > Notification settings > Spark plugin.
Students can also adjust the notifications they receive. The notification settings "Respond to course feedback" and "Course feedback report available" apply to notifications received in the student role, and only "Feedback survey, course start notification to teacher" applies to the teacher role.
