68 doctors, five honorary doctors - see photos from the conferment of Doctoral Degrees in Technology

The Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees in Technology 2024 took place on Friday 14 June at Dipoli.

The conferment celebrated the Doctors of Science in Technology who graduated from Aalto University between 1 May 2023 and 30 April 2024 – a total of 68 doctors were conferred. Conferment, the most prestigious of the academic celebrations, was hosted this year by the School of Engineering. 

Aalto University also conferred five new Honorary Doctors of Science in Technolog in the ceremony. The Schools of Technology awarded the honorary doctorates to the following individuals for their significant societal impact and contributions to the fields of science and technology:

  • Chief Executive Officer Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko, Marimekko
  • Chief Technology Officer Petteri Alinikula, SAAB Finland
  • Professor Ashok Kumar, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
  • Professor Cecilia Tortajada, University of Glasgow
  • Professor Marjo Yliperttula, University of Helsinki

In keeping with tradition, the university also grants diplomas to jubilee doctors in technology who have graduated 50 years ago. This year, there were eleven jubilee doctors, of whom eight were awarded their diplomas in the ceremony.

Conferment Day photos

Conferment Day included a ceremonial graduation ceremony (the Act of Conferment) with a procession of professors, speeches and musical performances. The conferment continued into the evening with a gala dinner and ball.
