In the service, learners can search courses available to also non-degree students as well as other suitable learning materials such as research-based content and events.

The beta version of Opin.fi will be opened to users on Tuesday, 8 October 2024. At this stage, the service is hoping for a substantial number of users whose feedback will guide ongoing development. The initial beta version includes only eight higher education institutions, including Aalto University.

What is Opin.fi?

Opin.fi is a national service aimed at lifewide learners (meaning all of us), where you can find a collection of open study offerings from various higher education institutions.

The future working life requires wider expertise, which open studies offered by higher education institutions are an efficient means to acquire. With the Opin.fi service, the open studies of Finnish higher education institutions will be found all in one place. Finding the studies that interest you will be effortless, and transitioning to and enrolling in studies will be easy.

Aalto University's open university and FITech's studies are featured in the service. In addition, Opin.fi offers other content, such as podcasts, events, and videos. You can search for suitable offerings by using various filters. If needed, Opin.fi directs the learner to the university's website to enroll or learn more about the studies.

What will Opin.fi offer in the future?

The learning opportunities at the Opin.fi service will expand as other higher education institutions join. In the future, you can create an Opin.fi account, and view your own previous credits, attendance, and study rights information related to higher education in Finland.

The higher education institutions will adopt the Opin.fi service in phases. The first phase will involve eight higher education institutions: Aalto University, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, HAMK University of Applied Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, University of Lapland, Laurea University of Applied Sciences, and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences.

Next spring, the service usage will be extended to almost all other Finnish higher education institutions, and by the end of 2025, it is intended that all open study units of all Finnish higher education institutions will be found in the Opin.fi service.
