Competent colleague online course invites you as a team member to your work. You get time to stop and think about your role as a colleague and team member. As a team, you also think about how you can manage your own work and time better.
What?
The course can be done independently or together with a team. The course utilizes videos, exercises, and reflective tasks to engage participants and enhance their learning experience. It is also possible to ask a team coach to facilitate the team discussion in focusing on some theme of the course. There are support materials available to support the team discussion. Why?
Equ(al)ity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are central to advancing employee wellbeing and success. Diversity refers to the differences between individuals who work in an organization. Equity refers to giving everyone access to equal opportunity by providing the tools they need to succeed, and inclusion means creating an environment in which all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully.
Unconscious biases can prevent organizations from being diverse, equitable and inclusive. The aims of this course are:
- To build participants’ awareness of what unconscious biases are, and how and why they are formed
- To support participants in recognizing the impact unconscious biases have on their own behaviours and in their workplaces
- To enable participants to take action to prevent the impact of unconscious biases
What?
We recommend completing five sections in the designed order. Each section contains an informative video which explains the key terminology and concepts, as well as accompanying reflection exercises which you can complete at your own pace. At the end of the course you will find a quiz to test your knowledge. In each section you can also find a list of recommended readings, which you may choose to explore in your own time after completing the training.

The course is particularly beneficial to those seeking better mental energy management and a more accepting relationship with oneself. For individuals who are prone to self-criticism or perfectionism, those facing mental difficulties or dissatisfaction in their life, or anyone striving for self-improvement and a better understanding of self-compassion.
Why?
Self-compassion is a powerful tool to promote psychological resilience and improve mental wellness. It enables individuals to handle difficulties, accept feedback, deal with emotions and foster a non-judgmental, accepting relationship with oneself.
What?
A course focusing on self-compassion, outlining its benefits like enhancing resilience, promoting kindness towards oneself, and helping individuals deal with barriers or obstacles. It discusses how mindfulness exercises, which involve a conscious acceptance of the present, can foster an accepting and friendly relationship with oneself. The course, produced by Aalto study psychologists, is propounded as a solution to several challenges like self-criticism, perfectionism, dissatisfaction with life, or difficulty in understanding feelings. Instructions for enrolling in the course are also provided.

How to live a good life? The aim of this course is to strengthen the participant’s understanding of the fundamental questions of good life and how to make reasoned life choices.
For whom?
To anyone interested in living a good life and dedicating some time to reflect upon their own life and their own life choices.
Why?
The purpose is to deepen the participant’s understanding of oneself, life, and what being a human entails, while strengthening the ability to live a life that is volitional, self-chosen and good according to one’s own standards.
What?
The course gives tools to think about what to aim for in life, helps to identify barriers and challenges to good life, and explains what latest research tells about the choices in life that tend to lead to well-being, happiness, and meaningfulness. Video sessions and three kinds of assignments: reflection tasks, activities and quizzes. The content is divided into parts and every part has in addition to several videos one or more of the assignments within it.
NOTE:
Aalto University will not automatically credit this course and the course is not part of Aalto's degree studies. Negotiate with your responsible teacher. This course has a calculated study time which will help you to plan the amount of time you will need. This course is worth 54 hours which is 2 ects. Information about European Credit Transfer Systems ECTS. At the end of the course you can get a issued badge that you can then later on use to prove your learning.
