Aalto University's goal is to provide everyone with an equal and inclusive operating environment in which all genders, employees and students from different backgrounds are treated equally. Our common goal is to have a good study and work environment at the university. Equality and inclusivity work contribute to the sustainable social and cultural development of Aalto University.
Aalto University's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Plan supports the continuous promotion of equality and inclusion at the university. The planning, implementation and monitoring of Aalto University's values and equality is handled by the EDI Committee, in which the School of Arts, Design and Architecture has a representative.
The EDI Committee draws up a separate plan for the implementation and monitoring of the EDI plan, which is updated annually. The higher education institutions and the university's joint units prepare their own practical actions on the basis of the university's EDI Plan. At the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, ARTS EDI Task Force, nominated by the Dean, is responsible for the EDI Plan.
Equality refers to an aim to provide a non-discriminatory, equal and accessible environment in which employees and students with diverse backgrounds receive equal opportunities and fair treatment and are free to study and work without discrimination.
Diversity refers to all of the ways we differ, e.g. education, age, gender, nationality or personality traits – any visible or non-visible attributes that make us different from each other.
Inclusion refers to an environment of involvement and respect, where everyone can be their true self, feel a sense of belonging, and where our different backgrounds and perspectives are seen as strengths.
